I especially liked the third part because it was so funny.

#MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH MANGA AMAZON SERIES#
This Volume: 3 The entire series: 2 The second part of the Magic Knight series was an enjoyable read. I'm now old enough to admit to myself that it really wasn't all that great, actually, but.I'm okay with that.more Still, I cannot deny that Magic Knight Rayearth will forever remain rather dear to me, due to stupid nostalgia and whatnot. Giant robot action scenes crammed into tiny panels (and too many action lines and magic effects) don't work too well in still art.Īlso, I just remember really liking Nova, who doesn't exist in the manga. So instead of exploring anything very fresh, they're hanging onto the story of the previous arc, which centered around a boring character, nobody says much that's very interesting, and a bunch of characters (everyone not named Hikaru and Eagle) are basically irrelevant now.Īs with every volume since volume 3 of the first series, almost every battle scene with a Mashin is fairly incomprehensible. Not to mention every time it's mentioned, we're given background shots of Emeraude who, while tragic, was also *boring*. Various characters just repeat the same thoughts (regarding Cephiro's pillar system) over and over, which is interesting enough (I mean, the pillar system *is* the whole driving conflict behind this arc of the story), but when there isn't a whole lot of contemplation going on other than this, it gets rather old. (And let's face it: Ohkawa Nanase has never written particularly good dialog). Volume 2 is pretty silly in terms of how expository much of the dialog is, which generally makes for.well, really bad dialog, unless the author is particularly clever with turns of phrases. I'm pretty sure they all had bigger roles in the anime. In volumes 2 and 3, Chizeta and Fahren are pretty much inconsequential and feel like they're there more for padding (and possibly comic relief) than anything else, while that padding could have been put to better use focusing on the girls and their relationships with the other characters. Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu almost take a backseat to things this time around, with Eagle more or less running the show as Most Important Character. Like the first half, things happen at breakneck speeds all throughout, and we aren't given enough insight into the mass of characters besides much of a glancing one. I mean, just look at him.įrom what I remember of it, I think I have to say the anime version of the second series of Rayearth is definitely superior to the manga version, though I'll have to rewatch it to be 100% sure.ĭue to Clamp's insistence that their two halves of Rayearth follow a three book format, they more or less completely screwed themselves over in terms of pacing. (view spoiler) Middle school self thought this revelation was ridiculously goofy and asspullish, and adult self definitely still agrees. Due to Clamp's insistence that their two halves of Rayearth follow a three book f 2.5 stars for the overall story. From what I remember of it, I think I have to say the anime version of the second series of Rayearth is definitely superior to the manga version, though I'll have to rewatch it to be 100% sure.
